This year as the crowds pass
under that historic arch at the east entrance
to the Dyer County Fairgrounds on Monday evening,
September 3, a milestone will be achieved. The
Dyer County Fair will be celebrating its 125th
Anniversary – a record achieved by very
few fairs across the country.
Dyer County Fair’s first charter was recorded
May 1, 1882 at 5:30 o’clock P.M. at the
Dyer County Courthouse. It was signed and witnessed
by the following men who gathered there for
this historic event: Tom W. Neal, A. Rawles,
D. E. Parker, Hamilton Parks, Jr., James W.
Baker, H. L. Fowlkes and W. N. McKnight. These
men were among some of the most prominent men
in Dyer County.
Not only will we be celebrating our 125th Anniversary,
we will also be celebrating a run of 60 consecutive
years.
